Effective July 31, 2009, loan originators doing business in the state of Missouri will be required to be individually licensed and educated.  Education requirements will include 20 hours of pre-licensing credits and 8 hours of continuing education.  Classes for both pre-licensing and continuing education must be approved through the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS).  More information on approved vendors and courses may be found at www.stateregulatoryregistry.org.

The Missouri Association of Mortgage Brokers (MAMB) has partnered with two education providers to offer approved education to our members.  AllRegs and the Mortgage Education Foundation (MEF) will be offering classes that meet both pre-licensing and continuing education requirements.

Both providers are now working with CSBS in order to get their catalog of courses approved.  Once available, loan originators will be offered both online and in-house options.  The best part of the online courses is that they can be taken from the comfort of your home or office, at your pace, so that transportation is no longer an issue.

Whether you are a loan officer or processor that is new to the industry, or an experienced professional with many years in the business, the MAMB has a class for you. It’s easy to fall into the trap of “I know everything I need to know,” but that is not the case. What was common practice even two or three years ago can now be outdated in many cases.

Another major benefit to continuing education is that it allows you to serve the home buying public with the utmost professionalism and expertise. Think about it…if one of your friends, family members or a referral from one of those people came to see you, wouldn’t you feel better if you knew 100% that these customers were being provided with the most up-to-date knowledge and information?

The MAMB is very supportive of the new loan originator licensing requirements now mandated by law.   Remember…an educated mortgage professional is a mortgage professional
worth doing business with.

Missouri mortgage professionals can take education courses through the Illinois Association of Mortgage Brokers by logging onto http://www.mortgageeducationfoundation.com.

In addition to helping yourself by taking an education course, you will also be helping the MAMB, as we are a member of the IAMB’s education foundation, and as such, we receive a percentage of earnings of the Missouri individuals that register for these classes.
